It has been well-documented that the single most effective way to prevent building fires - and subsequently large property losses, is through a building-wide sprinkler system. Sprinklers are known to protect building and property structure, as well as potentially save lives by slowing the advance of a fire and allowing occupants more time to escape.
Not only can sprinklers save property and lives, they save APEI members on insurance premiums at each policy year renewal. Alaska state law requires annual inspection of building sprinklers by a certified inspector under the International Fire Code 2009 Edition: Section 901.6, but APEI adds additional incentive by providing a premium credit for buildings that have sprinklers with a current certification of inspection. With this annual credit, inspected sprinkler system start topay for themselves in just a few years! In order to receive the sprinkler premium credit, APEI requires that a copy of a current inspection be submitted with the insurance renewal application. So update your inspections if necessary, collect the sprinkler inspection certifications, and send them to APEI. Contact APEI for a list of certified inspectors.
