U.S. Department of Labor Publishes New Overtime Rule

On May 18, 2016, the US Department of Labor announced the publication of the final rule updating the overtime regulations of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The monumental changes will mean that an estimated 4.2 million employees in the United States that are currently exempt will become eligible for overtime pay later this year.

Alaska OSHA Expands Reporting Requirements

Alaska has recently updated their workplace accident reporting requirements for employers. On May 17, 2016, Governor Walker signed Senate Bill 148 into law. The legislation expands Alaska’s workplace accident reporting requirements to match federal OSHA standards and even be a little more stringent than the federal requirements.

I am pleased to report on a very successful APEI board of directors spring meeting held on April 29th in Anchorage with a preceding day of strategic and succession planning. The board approved the distribution of excess capital totaling $3,910,000 which is being shared among all members in the form of premium credits and dividends.
